Managing Bans

A banned address gets a 403 for every request, admin pages included, until the ban ends or is lifted. Private network addresses are allowed before bans are checked when Always allow private networks is on, so staff on the institution's network cannot lock themselves out that way.

Automatic bans

With Ban automatically on (the default), an address is banned the moment one of its requests reaches the block score, for the Ban length set under Settings (one hour at first). The dashboard lists it under Active bans as automatic. An address that is already banned is not banned twice.

Banning by hand

Only Super Users can ban and lift bans.

  1. Open the address's page: click it anywhere on the dashboard, or enter it under Look up an address.
  2. Under Ban this address, enter how many hours the ban lasts (0 for a ban with no end) and, if you like, a note such as "scraper, see ticket 42".
  3. Click Ban.

Lifting a ban

On the address's page, click Lift next to the active ban. The ban stays in the address's history with the time it was lifted.
