Traffic Guard has three modes, set under Traffic Guard > Settings > Protection mode. Each has its own rate limits, its own slow-down and block scores, and its own signal weights, so changing the mode tightens or relaxes everything at once.
| Normal | Elevated | Under attack | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Requests per minute, other pages | 120 | 80 | 40 |
| Searches per minute | 20 | 10 | 5 |
| Record pages per minute | 80 | 50 | 25 |
| Slow down at score | 40 | 30 | 20 |
| Block at score | 70 | 55 | 40 |
| Weight of a bot user agent | 30 | 40 | 60 |
When to switch
- Normal suits everyday traffic: real visitors are never slowed down by browsing, and only clients with several bad signals are stopped.
- Elevated when the dashboard shows a crawler that stays just under Normal's limits, or the site slows down under bot traffic. A browser that goes over a limit is slowed down.
- Under attack during a flood. A known bot user agent alone is blocked, and limits are low enough that heavy scraping stops quickly. Real visitors browsing fast may be slowed down too, so switch back once it is over.
Every number in the table can be changed per mode under Settings.
