Recalling an announcement
Supervisors and Global Administrators can recall any announcement: open it from Announcements > All announcements and click Recall, then confirm.
Recalling:
- marks the announcement Recalled in the list and on its page, with the time it was recalled;
- shows recipients a Recalled badge and the notice This announcement has been recalled by the sender;
- takes it out of their Unread tab, the bell and the dashboard panel, while leaving it readable under All;
- stops its email notifications if the email job has not run yet. Emails already sent cannot be recalled.
A recall cannot be undone. To correct an announcement, recall it and send a new one.
Expiry
An announcement with an Expires at date is listed as Expired once that time has passed. Expiry by itself does not change anyone's inbox: messages stay where they are until the cleanup handles them.
Cleanup
The cleanup archives or deletes the inbox messages of expired announcements, as set under Cleanup of expired announcements in the module settings (see Configuration):
- Archive them moves the messages to each user's Archived tab.
- Delete them from inboxes removes them from inboxes. They still count in the delivery stats.
The announcement itself is never deleted; it stays in All announcements as Expired.
Automatic cleanup
Set Clean up after (days) to a number of days, for example 14. Two weeks after an announcement expires, its messages are cleaned up. The module checks at most once an hour, while anyone is using the admin, so no cron job is needed. With 0, nothing is cleaned up automatically.
Run cleanup
Run cleanup, at the bottom of All announcements, starts the cleanup at once as a background job (see Admin > Jobs). It follows the same rule: announcements that expired more than Clean up after days ago, or every expired announcement when the setting is 0. The text next to the button says which.
