FAQs Omeka S module

Troubleshooting

Why don't I see New Announcement or All announcements?

Only Supervisors and Global Administrators send announcements, and only they and Editors can browse All announcements. Other roles see Announcements in the sidebar as their own inbox. Opening one of the other pages directly shows Omeka's Forbidden page. See the permissions table in Configuration.

Why didn't someone receive an announcement?

Recipients are worked out when the announcement is sent. A person does not receive it if:

  • their account was inactive when it was sent;
  • they joined, or were given a targeted role, after it was sent;
  • it was sent to roles that don't include theirs and they weren't picked by name.

Open the announcement to see who it was sent to and the number of recipients. To reach someone who missed it, send it again to that person.

Why are announcement emails not arriving?

  • Also send email notification must have been ticked when the announcement was sent; its page shows Email sent: Yes.
  • The recipient may have turned Receive announcement emails off under User settings.
  • Emails go out from a background job. Check Admin > Jobs for SendAnnouncementEmails: a job stuck at Starting means Omeka's background jobs are not running on the server.
  • Omeka S needs a working mail transport in config/local.config.php. If other Omeka emails (such as password resets) don't arrive either, fix that first.
  • A recalled announcement sends no emails if it was recalled before the job ran.

Why is the bell missing?

The bell is added to the top of every admin page for signed-in users. If it is missing, check that the module is active under Admin > Modules, and that the page has finished loading: the bell is added by script, so a script error on the page can stop it. The browser's developer console shows such errors.

Why are expired announcements still in inboxes?

Expiry alone does not change inboxes. Either set Clean up after (days) above 0 for the automatic cleanup, or click Run cleanup on All announcements. The automatic cleanup runs at most once an hour, so a newly due announcement can take up to an hour to be cleaned up. See Recall, Expiry and Cleanup.

Why does it say "The expiry date is in the past"?

Expiry dates are read in the installation's time zone (Admin > Settings > Time zone), not your computer's. If the two differ, a time that is still ahead for you may already have passed in the installation's time zone. Enter the time as it is in the installation's zone, or choose a later one.

Why did some formatting disappear when I sent an announcement?

The body is cleaned of anything that could run code or change the admin for its readers: scripts, on… event attributes, embedded frames and the like. Ordinary formatting, links and images are kept.

Can I edit an announcement after sending it?

No. Recall it and send a corrected one. Recipients see the first one marked as recalled.

Why did I get "The form expired. Try again."?

Every button that changes something carries a security token, valid for an hour. The page had been open longer than that, or you signed out and in again since it loaded. Reload the page and try again.
