The blog
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Blog |
The heading of the blog home, the label of its link in the site's navigation, and the name of the feeds. Once you have saved Appearance > Navigation, the label there wins in the menu. |
| Description | empty | A sentence under the title on the blog home, also the description of the feeds. Plain text, up to 500 characters. |
| Posts per page | 10 |
On the blog home and the category, tag and author pages. 1 to 100. |
| RSS and Atom feeds | on | Serves /blog/feed/rss and /blog/feed/atom and adds a discovery link to every page. Off, the feed addresses answer 404. The sitemap is always available. |
| Accent colour | empty | A six-digit hex colour, such as #3a6fa8, for the blog's buttons (Read more, Post comment). The text on the buttons is white or near-black, whichever reads better. Empty, the buttons take the theme's main colour. |
Comments
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Visitors may comment | on | A comment form under each published post. Off, the form is gone and the API refuses new comments; approved comments stay visible. |
| Comments per visitor per hour | 5 |
More from the same address are refused for an hour. 0 for no limit. |
| Links allowed in a comment | 2 |
A comment with more links (in its text or name) goes straight to Spam. Empty for no limit. |
See Comments and Moderation for the other checks against spam.
Emails to moderators
Send to lists the active Admins and Super Users. Those you tick get an email:
- when a visitor's comment is waiting for moderation (not for comments that went to Spam), with the comment and a link to it;
- when a post is sent for review, usually by a Contributor, with a link to the post's form and its preview.
Choose nobody for no emails. The emails go out from a background job, with Omeka's mail settings, from the Administrator Email under Settings > General. Omeka's own mail setup (mail.transport in config.ini) decides how they are sent.
Who can do what

See Editorial Workflow. The REST API applies the same rules to API keys: see REST API.
Author profiles
Each user's form (Users > Edit, or a user's own account page) has a Blog profile with a Blog bio and a Blog picture (the address of a square image, such as an image file from your collection). They appear under "About the author" on that user's posts and on their author page. Contributors can edit their own.
Site search
Posts are a record type of Omeka's site search, Blog Post. To include them in the public search, tick Blog Post under Settings > Search > Search Record Types. Unpublished and scheduled posts are not found by visitors.
Allowed HTML
Post text is filtered by Omeka's HTML Purifier, like Simple Pages text, with the elements and attributes allowed under Settings > Security, plus images (img with src, alt, width, height), code and hr, which a post needs and Omeka's defaults leave out. Anything else is removed when the post is saved: scripts, event attributes, iframe embeds, and any element the security settings do not list. If the HTML filter is turned off under Settings > Security, posts are saved as written.
