Roles

The Omeka S module's roles map onto Omeka Classic's:

Omeka S Omeka Classic On the blog
Author Contributor Writes and edits their own posts and sends them for review.
Editor, Site Administrator, Global Administrator Admin, Super User Publish, schedule, edit and delete any post; moderate comments; manage categories, tags and settings.
Researcher, Reviewer Researcher No blog admin pages; may preview unpublished posts.

What Contributors can do

  • Blog > Posts lists only their own posts. They have no Comments, Categories, Tags or Settings tabs.
  • They add posts and edit their own; another user's post is refused.
  • They cannot publish. Their Status menu has Draft and Send for review. A post they save as published, whatever the way (the form, the API, an AI assistant), is saved as Pending review instead, and the message says so.
  • Editing their own post after it was published sends it back for review: it leaves the site until an Admin publishes it again. The form warns them.
  • They cannot delete posts.
  • They preview their own unpublished posts.
  • They edit their own Blog profile (bio and picture) on their account page.

Reviewing a post

  1. On Blog > Posts, click Pending review (or the link in the email, or on the Dashboard).
  2. Open the post with Edit, or click Preview to read it in the site's layout.
  3. Make any changes, set Status to Published (with a Publication date to schedule it) and click Save Changes.

To send a post back to its author, set it to Draft and tell them why by your usual means: the blog keeps no review notes.

Emails

When a post becomes Pending review, the users chosen under Blog > Settings > Emails to moderators get an email with the author's name, the post's title and summary, and links to its form and preview. A post that stays pending while it is edited does not send another. See Configuration.

Previewing

See Managing Posts. Admins, Super Users and Researchers preview any post; Contributors their own.

Other plugins

  • When the Audit Trail plugin is installed, creating, changing, sending for review, publishing and deleting posts are logged, with comment moderation, category and tag changes and settings.
  • When a post goes live, now or at its scheduled time, the blog fires the blog_post_published hook. See Developer Reference.
