A published post does not appear on the site
Check, in this order:
- Its Status is Published, not Draft or Pending review.
- Its Publication date is not in the future: Blog > Posts marks scheduled posts Scheduled.
- It was not written by a Contributor and saved since: a Contributor's changes send the post back for review.
- You are looking at the public site signed out, or in a private window. Signed in, you are taken to the post's preview while it is not live.
The post address answers 404
The post is not live (see above), or its address changed. Addresses keep only lowercase letters, digits and hyphens; clear the Address field to make one from the title. Avoid simple pages whose address is blog or starts with blog/: they compete with the blog's own addresses.
"Choose a category" when saving
Every post needs a category. If there is none, an Admin adds one under Blog > Categories. Posts left without a category when theirs was deleted need a new one on their next save.
My images or embedded videos disappeared when I saved
The post's HTML is filtered by Omeka's HTML Purifier (see Configuration). Images, code and horizontal rules are always allowed in posts, but other elements only when Settings > Security lists them. iframe embeds (videos, maps) are removed with Omeka's usual settings: link to them instead. HTML5 elements such as figure and figcaption need the Block Suite plugin's "Keep page markup" setting.
Comments sent from the site do not appear
- Every comment waits for a moderator: look under Blog > Comments > Pending.
- Look under Spam: a comment with more links than allowed goes there directly.
- A visitor who sends many comments in an hour is refused for the rest of the hour (Comments per visitor per hour).
- Visitors may comment must be on, and only published posts take comments.
- If your theme overrides
comments.php, it must keep the hiddenblog_websitefield and theblog_tokenfield.
No notification emails arrive
- Choose moderators under Blog > Settings > Emails to moderators. Only active Admins and Super Users can receive them.
- Omeka must be able to send mail: check
mail.transportinapplication/config/config.ini, and the Administrator Email under Settings > General (the sender). - The emails go out from a background job: Omeka needs the path to PHP's command-line program (
background.php.pathinconfig.ini). Failures are written to Omeka's error log.
The blog link is not in the menu, or has the wrong name
Under Appearance > Navigation, tick the blog's link and save. Once that page has been saved, its label there wins over the blog's Title: rename the link there.
Posts are not found by the site search
Tick Blog Post under Settings > Search > Search Record Types. Scheduled posts are added to the search when their time comes, on the first visit to the site after it.
The blog does not look like the rest of my theme
The blog takes its colours from the Theme Engine's --theme-* tokens and its type from the theme. On other themes it uses neutral colours: set the --blog-* variables in your theme's stylesheet, or override the templates. See Displaying the Blog.
The API does not return my draft
Requests without a key, and keys of users who may not see unpublished posts, get only published posts; a draft answers 404. Use the key of an Admin or Super User (or of the Contributor who wrote it). See REST API.
A Contributor cannot publish or delete
That is the editorial workflow: Contributors send posts for review, and Admins or Super Users publish and delete them. See Editorial Workflow.
An author shows as "Unknown author"
The post's author account was deleted before the plugin kept a copy of the name, or the post was made without a user (from the command line). The author cannot be changed from the form.
