The curated transcript of an interview goes in and out as one JSON file.
Exporting
On the review screen, click Export JSON. The file holds the paragraphs with their speakers and times, the reviewed flags, the chapters with their topics, and the footnotes. The raw word-level data is not included.
Importing
- On the review screen, Import JSON replaces the transcript.
- On a file's admin page, the Oral History panel has Import transcript JSON for audio and video files never processed: a transcript made elsewhere can come in without running the AI pipeline at all.
An import replaces the paragraphs, speakers, chapters and footnotes, and always puts the interview back in the review queue (a published interview leaves the public site until it is approved again). Raw word timings are never touched. Footnotes linked to items or files that do not exist on this site are kept without the link, with a warning.
Files exported by the Omeka S module import as they are: their linked media become files.
Writing a transcript elsewhere
Only paragraphs is required. Speakers are named, and created on import. See Transcript JSON Format for the whole format.
