An interview stays "Queued", or shows as "Stalled"
The background job did not start, or stopped. Omeka runs long jobs with its PHP command-line program, which it finds by itself or takes from background.php.path in application/config/config.ini: check that it can, and that PHP may start programs on the server. An interview that has made no progress for two minutes, with no job working on it, shows as Stalled: click Retry, and it resumes where it stopped. The review screen's processing log shows what happened last.
Video cannot be queued
ffmpeg was not found, or PHP may not run it (proc_open disabled). Install ffmpeg and let the plugin find it, or set the ffmpeg path and ffprobe path in the settings. Audio works without ffmpeg while each file is within the provider's upload limit; see Without ffmpeg in Configuration.
Transcription fails with "over the provider limit"
The recording is larger than the provider accepts (25 MB for OpenAI) and ffmpeg is not available to compress it or split it into chunks. Install ffmpeg, or upload a smaller file (a mono MP3 at 64 kbps holds about 50 minutes in 25 MB).
Queueing is refused
The month's spend plus the estimate would go over the monthly budget. Raise the budget in the settings, or wait for next month. A budget of 0 means none. Automatic queueing also stops at the daily cap; the review queue page lists the files it passed over.
A stage failed with a provider error
The review queue shows the stage and the provider's message. Fix the cause (an invalid API key, a model the provider no longer offers, a network problem, an empty balance) and click Retry. Processing resumes at the stage that failed; earlier stages are not billed again.
"HTTP request failed" mentions a certificate
PHP cannot check HTTPS certificates. Point openssl.cafile (or curl.cainfo) in the server's php.ini at its CA bundle, and restart PHP.
Whole passages are flagged, not single words
That is expected: Whisper reports confidence for a stretch of speech, not per word, so the words of a stretch are flagged together. Listen to it with the play button and mark it reviewed.
The model list is empty
Save the provider and the API key first, then click Refresh model list. The list comes from the provider, so it needs a valid key and the server's access to it.
The player does not appear on the public page
Check that the interview is published (not just saved), that Player on item pages or Player on file pages is on, and that the item is public (or that you are signed in with the right to see private items).
Two players show on the page
JavaScript is off, or the theme shows the file in a way the plugin does not recognize. The plugin hides the page's own audio and video elements that play the same file (Omeka's, or Html5 Media's). A theme that places the player itself with oralHistoryPlayer() can turn off the automatic players in the settings.
Site search does not find the transcript
The transcript is added to the search text of the file and the item when it is published. Check that the interview is published, that Items and Files are searched (Settings > Search), and that you are using the site search (/search): the items browse page's search box looks at metadata only.
Publishing saved the item
When a summary element is chosen, publishing writes the summary into the item and saves it, so plugins that act when items are saved (Resource Versioning, Chatbot) see the change. That is expected.
Can I edit the summary element by hand?
Yes, but publishing replaces it and unpublishing removes it. Edit the summary on the review screen instead, so it survives.
