Transcript JSON Format

Export and import use one JSON document per interview, format_version 1, the same as the Omeka S module's.

Fields

Field Required Description
format yes Always oral-archivist-transcript.
format_version yes 1.
file_id no The file it was exported from (ignored on import). Omeka S exports have media_id instead.
language no ISO 639-1 code.
duration_ms no The duration, in milliseconds.
paragraphs yes The paragraphs, in order.
paragraphs[].start_ms, end_ms yes The paragraph's time range, in milliseconds; the end after the start.
paragraphs[].speaker no The speaker's name. Speakers are created by name on import.
paragraphs[].text yes The text, with footnote markers if any.
resolved_flags no Indexes of raw words whose low-confidence flags were marked reviewed.
chapters no Chapters with start_ms, end_ms, title and a list of topics (at most ten).
footnotes no One entry per footnote key used in the text.

Footnote markers

A footnote is anchored in the text as [[fn:KEY]]words[[/fn]]. Keys match [A-Za-z0-9_-]{1,40} and are unique within the interview, with one footnotes entry per key. Each footnote needs at least one of body, url (http or https), or a resource_id with a resource_type of items or files (media, from Omeka S, is read as files). is_public is true unless set false.

On import

  • Paragraphs, speakers, chapters and footnotes are replaced.
  • The interview goes back to the review queue.
  • The raw word timings from transcription are never changed; the timings of "Search this interview" are worked out again at publishing.
  • Footnotes linked to records this site does not have keep their note, without the link, and a warning says so. A marker without a footnote, or a footnote without a marker, is reported too.
