FAQs Omeka S module

Troubleshooting

The BlockSuite blocks are not in the "Add new block" sidebar

Check Admin > Modules. The module must be Active. After copying a newer version over the old one the module shows Upgrade available and is deactivated until you click Upgrade.

A block renders nothing on the public page

Each block renders nothing when it has no content:

  • Card Slider: no cards, or every card had an empty Title (those are dropped on save).
  • Item Slider: no attachments in Choose specific items mode, or the query returned no items. In query mode the search is limited to items assigned to the current site and visible to the visitor, so check the item is public and assigned to the site.
  • Tabs (HTML): no tabs, or every tab had an empty Label.
  • Tabs (Blocks), Columns (Blocks): nothing inside the container (no heading, no intro blocks and no dividers).
  • Hero: no heading, text, button or image.
  • Call to Action: no heading and no button with both a label and a link.
  • Statistics, Timeline: every figure or event was empty.

My Tabs (Blocks) or Columns (Blocks) container shows its blocks in a plain list

Another module has overridden the pageLayout view helper and is taking precedence over BlockSuite's override. In that case the container degrades on purpose: it renders nothing and the blocks inside it render in page order. Check the other module's configuration for a view_helpers entry named pageLayout, or change module load order so BlockSuite's configuration is merged last.

The tabs appear, but every tab is called "Tab 1", "Tab 2"

The Tab or section label field on each BlockSuite: Tab / Section divider is empty. Open the divider block in the page editor and enter a label.

A button I added does not appear

A button needs both a Label and a Link, and the link must be a full address (https://…), a path on your site (/s/my-site/page/visit), an anchor (#section), or a mailto: or tel: link. Other links, such as javascript:, are not rendered.

Blocks I dragged into the container ended up outside it after saving

The container's span counts the blocks in its drop zone at the moment you submit. Make sure the blocks are inside the drop zone (indented below the container's heading field) rather than immediately after the container in the main list. Blocks marked for deletion are excluded from the count.

I cannot drop a Block group into a container

This is by design. Omeka's page editor refuses to place a core Block group inside any group drop zone, and BlockSuite follows the same rule. Put the container inside the Block group instead, or nest BlockSuite containers in each other.

The CKEditor toolbar disappeared on a block after I dragged it into a container

The editor instance is destroyed before a block is dragged and recreated when the drag ends. CKEditor's inline toolbar only shows while the text area has focus, so click into the text area to see it. If editing is not possible at all, save the page and reload the editor, and check the browser console for errors from other modules that hook CKEditor.

The Item Slider shows a plain panel instead of an image

The item has neither a thumbnail asset nor a primary media with a thumbnail. Set a thumbnail on the item (Edit item > Thumbnail) or add a media file to the item.

The property I want is not in the Display properties list

The list is fixed to ten Dublin Core terms: Title, Description, Date, Creator, Subject, Type, Source, Publisher, Rights and Format. To show other properties, override view/common/block-layout/item-slider.phtml in your theme; the template receives the full item representation, so you can read any property.

Autoplay stopped and does not start again

Autoplay pauses while the pointer is over the slider and resumes when it leaves. Moving keyboard focus into the slider stops it until the visitor presses Start automatic slide show, so it never moves content away from someone reading it. Autoplay also never starts for visitors whose system is set to reduce motion.

Fewer cards show than "Cards visible"

A slider fits as many cards as its own width allows (about 15rem, 240px, each), up to Cards visible. A slider in a narrow column, on a tablet or on a phone shows fewer cards. Use the grid display if every card should always be visible.

The blocks' colors do not match my theme

Blocks read the theme's --theme-* color tokens and otherwise use the browser's default colors. Themes that do not define the tokens can set BlockSuite's own --bst-* tokens; see Theming and Markup.

After uninstalling, pages show "Unknown [tabsGroup]" blocks

Uninstalling removes the layouts but not the blocks saved on your pages. They render as empty on the public site. Delete them from the page editor, or reinstall the module to bring them back.
