Sometimes a site has run its course. A project wraps up, a class ends, or a test site has served its purpose. When that happens, you can delete the site from your dashboard. Before you do, please read this page carefully, because deleting a site is permanent.
What deletion removes
Deleting a site removes everything connected to it:
- The live site itself
- The site's database, with all of its items, exhibits, and settings
- All of the site's backups
- All of the site's uploaded files, including images and other media
There is no undo and no recycle bin. Once a site is deleted, we cannot bring it back, and neither can you.
Before you delete: save what you want to keep
Because the site's backups are deleted along with it, do not count on them as a safety net. If there is any chance you will want this content again someday, download a backup to your own computer first.
It only takes a couple of minutes: create a fresh backup so it captures the site as it is right now, then download it. Our guide on manual backups and downloads walks through both steps.
If you are cleaning up because you want a duplicate somewhere else rather than the site itself, consider copying the site before you remove the original.
How to delete a site
Open the site and go to its Settings tab. The Delete action lives there.

You will be asked to confirm before anything happens. Take a moment here. Double-check that you have the right site open, especially if your team manages several sites with similar names. The Sites list shows the platform and version for each site, which can help you tell lookalikes apart.
Once you confirm, the site and everything listed above is removed.
